Tools, Tips & Tricks for finding your own!

Once you see just how many "sampled" beats & lyrics there are in modern (and old) music, you instantly want to discover one yourself. Here are some tools & tips on doing just that:
  • Listen to the radio. I know that sounds redundant, but listening to top 40 radio stations can be your best bet for finding stolen content. Or at least the thieves, anyway. To find the victim, you need to...
  • Get A Pandora. And base it on a relativity obscure/foreign/techno musician. Basshunter, September, Daft Punk, and Deadmau5 are good choices. Why do most steals/samples come from relativity unknown musicians? Because that way most people won't notice them!
  • Pay attention to the instrumentals. Most steals/samples are in the music. The best way to find them is to listen to the instrumental under music. If you can't hear it and/or the track is hevaily layered, look up "blank blank instrumental". There's usually at least a fan made for everything, if not an official.
As far as tools go...

  • Myna: This is a audio editing program offered (for FREEEE!!!!) be Aviary.com, a fabulous photo & audio editing site (Scroll down the page to see what they have. Their new site design is a little hard to find stuff on). This is great for chopping up songs and pasting them together for some real comparing.
  • YouTube Doubler: This plays 2 youtube vids at once, great for finding MAJOR samples (such as exact instrumentals. Think "Under Pressure" and "Ice Ice Baby").
  • Patience & A REALLY fast reaction time. A lot of finding steals/samples is in setting two videos to play at same time, or cutting something just right. Having a really fast reaction time helps with this. Also, set your mouse speed as high as you can get it. You need all the speed you can get.
Well, I suppose that's about it. If you find one, send it to me at stealsandsamples@yahoo.com and I might post it here!
