Style Sample: Kat Graham

Soo... Kat Graham. You should stuck with acting. It's not that you can't sing, or dance, but originality isn't even in your vocabulary.

So here's Kat. Looking amazingly like the queen of pop herself, Miss Jackson

See it? Yeah, kinda freaky, I know.
I know what you're thinking. "It's just that picture" you say.

Nah, no so much. She's pretty much Janet's twin, which is ok. If that's where it stopped. But it's not, unfortunately. She launched her career with this:

WHY? Do this to this song? WHY WHY WHY? So she started her career ripping off Paula. And so she continued by releasing this:

So now there's the Janet ripoff. "But!", you say, "She's a fan of Paula and Janet! She's just paying tribute." No. She's not. Paying tribute is standing on a stage and yelling "This one's for you Janet" or doing one or 2 of these songs during a concert. NOT launching your career with them. Kat does have some original songs, but they all sound like Janet or Paula songs.

So, Kat Graham. Talented old school style artist or Janet Jackson wannabe? You decide.

The Show Floats On : Modest Mouse vs. Lupe Fiasco

This sample is a prime example of why I love Pandora. I never would have heard this if it weren't for Pandora. (The original that is.) Just about everyone knows the the thief. First, Victim:

Song:Float On
Artist: Modest Mouse
Release Date: Febuary 14, 2004

Sampled bits are :08 and 2:11
Interesting note: There are actually 2 thieves here. I will list both.

Song: The Show Goes On
Artist: Lupe Fiasco
Release date: October 26, 2010

The blatant-ness of this one just HURTS. And I love modest mouse to :-( But it gets worse. Get ready for MILEY!!!

Song: Party in The U.S.A
Artist: Miley Cyrus
Release Date: August 11, 2009

I hate Miley anyway, but...Ouch. That sounds like the beginning of float on to me, don't you think?

Stolen beats run the world...Major Lazer vs. Beyonce

There's good news and bad news. The bad news: I'm sick. AGAIN. The good news: I've compiled lots of samples in my misery. First up: The FAB-ulous Beyonce. I love this song , but it's so stolen. First, thief:

Artist: Beyonce
Song: Run the world (Girls)
Release date: April 21, 2011

I actually like this song, but my mom hates it. Now, victim:

Artist: Major Lazer
Song: Pon De Floor
Release date: 2009

I personal like the original better. Thoughts?

Straight up now tell me, is this a bad sample or what? J Cole vs. Paula Abdul

Let me start by saying 2 things:
1. I have been waiting a VERY long time to write this post.
2. I am TOTALLY biased towards the victim.

With that said:

This is one of the few samples I have followed from the beginning. I first saw evidence of this on the victim's twitter (What, you didn't know I had a twitter? YOU AREN'T FOLLOWING ME??? Well go follow me! @stoleaccordion), didn't believe my eyes, and googled it. And low and behold, it was true. I wanted to post it at than moment, but I told myself I'd wait 'till I heard the thief song on the radio. This was 5 months ago. At 1:15 am Thursday, I heard it on 102.7 KIIS FM LA. So here we go! First up: The theif.

Title: Workout
Artist: J. Cole
Release Date: As best as I can tell, June 15 2011
Sample appears at 3:08

The older of you probably recognized the sample here, younger probably did not. I, being a bit of a superfan of the victim, think this is just sooooo wrong. And the original (which I know so well I don't even have to google for the info)

Title: Straight Up
Artist: Paula Abdul (I've beem waiting soo long for an excuse to put that name here)
Realease Date: November 1988

He KILLED this. Why would anyone do this to such a great song? Oh yeah, and the electronic "Doo doo doo doo" sound in the back ground of workout is lifted from "The New Workout Plan" by Kanye West. I would expound, but honestly, I don't care. Phew. Rant over.

Romania Vs. Romania - Alexandra Stan Vs. Inna

First let me say that I love both these songs and artists. Sorry America, but Romania has the best music. This song came on the radio, and I fell in love with it. So here it is:
(Note - I'm posting the instrumental because it's easier to spot the sample that way)
Artist: Alexandra Stan
Name: Mr. Saxobeat
Release Date : January 28, 2011

The moment I heard this I thought something in it sounded familiar. Hear the electronic sort of water drop sound in the background? It's not confirmed, but I'm pretty sure it's from this:
Artist: Inna
Name: Hot
Release date: November 12, 2008 These 2 songs sound a lot alike in the background music. (or at least I think they do) Opinions?

Flying off the earth....

Not sample related post: OH MY GOD PAULA ABDUL JUST TWEETED ME.

That is all. You may now return to your life.
